Message from Mrs. Stamer

I hope you have had an enjoyable week and have been enjoying some of the warmer weather. This year I have truly enjoyed getting to know Dr. Covino and having a chance to work with him. We are currently working on the District Strategic Plan and the energy and excitement around it thus far has been motivating. I am truly looking forward to what will come of this plan and getting started on bringing a new plan to life. Dr. Covino is looking to involve all stakeholders in some capacity. Please take some time and complete the survey to help provide input towards the development of the strategic plan.

Strategic Plan Survey: please click here.

In addition to this survey, another key source of feedback will be through the formation of a D102 Strategic Planning Committee. This committee, made up of approximately 60 people, will be a diverse group that includes parents, staff, community and business leaders from across our district. The committee's purpose will be to review the survey results and to offer additional feedback as they develop a recommended five-year plan. The Strategic Planning Committee will meet in the evening on April 10 and 11 to digest, discuss and develop priorities for D102 based on the data from this survey, information collected during community meetings and staff meetings and their personal experiences living and working in District 102.

If you would like to apply to be a part of the Strategic Planning Committee, Please submit your application through this link.

Thank you in advance for participating in this very important process!  If you have any questions about this survey, or the strategic planning process, please contact Dr. Chris Covino - covinoch@district102.k12.il.us.

Message from Mr. Ontiveros

Today it was great to see our Roadrunners interacting in a variety of “green themed” and St. Patrick’s Day activities. After IAR testing for our 3rd-6th grades, it was a well deserved way to close out the week.

I also had a chance to do a read aloud in Ms. Huneryager’s class. The book we read was Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch. We made connections by sharing family baby stories and I shared a quick photo of our newborn son, Jack who came home from the hospital this week.

If you happen to be out and about this weekend to take advantage of the increased daylight, I hope you get a chance to enjoy quality time with those close to you.

Have a great weekend Roadrunner families!

Curriculum Corner

Forest Road 1st graders have been hard at work doing research to create their very own nonfiction books.  Students have been doing research on an animal of their choice using a variety of sources including Pebble Go. Pebble Go is a great resource for 1st graders as it allows text to be read to them which allows for more student independence. The instructional focus has been on nonfiction text features, finding the main idea and key details, and creating a sense of closure.

Parking Reminders

Please do not park in the Barnsdale School parking lot for drop-off, pick-up, and when dropping off items during the day. Thank you!

Safe School Tip Line

In our continuing effort to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment, District 102 provides each school with an online Safe School Tip Line found on the District and School websites. The Tip Line can be found on a tab located on the District or School homepage.  Reports made to the tip line are reviewed and addressed during official school hours, typically within 24 hours of notification.  Information provided in the tip line is kept confidential and handled on a case-by-case basis.

Multicultural Night

You are invited to join us in celebrating the many cultures that make up the Forest Road School Community!

On Thursday, April 18 from 6:00p-7:30pm we will have a wonderful evening learning about and sharing different cultures.  We will also have performances from different organizations and a variety of ethnic foods to sample!

We need as many families as possible who would be willing to set up a display table to represent their country of origin or culture. Come share what makes your ethnicity or culture interesting and unique!  Also, feel free to sign up for a country that has already been chosen - it will be lovely to see how families celebrate the same culture differently!

Not sure what to display? Some samples of items that have been displayed in the past: food/candy, recipes, statues, dolls, currency, clothing, music, games, art, postcards, books, jewelry, and pottery.  This is your display, you can be as creative as you’d like!

Please go to Multicultural Night to sign-up to host a table and for more information about this exciting event!

Any questions?  Email Karine Otten at karineotten@gmail.com.  Looking forward to this exciting event!

Supplies needed include dry and wet food, treats, toys, litter, scratching posts/pads, newspaper, and paper towels. The animals would also appreciate new or pre-loved blankets and towels - something to consider when Spring cleaning!

The collection will be for the month of March, ending March 31st. Porch drop-offs can be made at 505 Beach Avenue in La Grange Park or at All Saints Church in Western Springs (4370 Woodland Ave, in the outdoor bench).

If you have any questions, please reach out to Kelley Eckmayer (keckmayer2395@gmail.com or 847-445-2395).
