Forest Road History
Poet’s Corner: The Beginning
Poet’s Corner, LaGrange Park's first school, opened in 1885 at 31st Street and LaGrange Road before relocating near LaGrange Road and Oak Avenue. Operating until 1910, it had strict rules, including “No whispering without permission.”
Established in 1950, Forest Road School opened with 180 students to meet the growing needs of the LaGrange Park community. By 1953, the school expanded with a new wing, accommodating 427 students as the population continued to grow.
In 1961, Forest Road became a primary school, initially serving Kindergarten through Grade 2. Over the years, it adapted to meet the community's changing needs, including housing a library, administrative offices, etc.
Continuing Legacy
LaGrange Park schools have grown and evolved alongside the community, creating a foundation for educational excellence.
