Hispanic Heritage Month

As promised, here is a picture of the final product of our Hispanic Heritage Month bulletin board. As I mentioned in my last newsletter, I had a student come to me and share an idea of how to create windows and mirrors in our school by sharing his cultural background while we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Joseph Byers took time to share his idea, create his vision and make it all come together. He made Celia Cruz the highlight of the project and added many Latino/e from the Caribbean and Latin America who have lead the pathway for many others. I hope Joseph’s work and passion inspires others. I’d love for more students to share ideas of ways to create windows and mirrors for our students at Forest Road. Throughout the year we will celebrate the many cultures that make up our Forest Road Family.

This past week we had our first All School Assembly. This year’s theme was “We Are Family”. We listened to the read aloud “Our Class is a Family” and we had 6th graders lead us in a review of our Forest Road School Agreement. At the end of the assembly the whole school sang the song “The Forest Road School Agreement”, lead by 6th graders and Mr. Tise. Enjoy!

Message from Mr. Ontiveros

Happy Friday Roadrunner Families!

Tomorrow begins the first official day of autumn and one full month we’ve been back to school. I hope the transition back into “school mode” has been a good one and you’re able to look forward to any planned seasonal activities on the horizon.

Next week, Forest Road will be conducting a school-wide fire safety drill. In the weeks following, we’ll be participating in various other safety drills, some partnering with the local fire & police departments. Detailed information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the dates.

Depending on your child’s experiences with safety drills, it may be beneficial to inquire/discuss their level of comfort while reassuring them that these are practice drills. Teachers and staff will be doing the same in order to best prepare our students for the weeks to come.

Please enjoy the weather over the next couple of days. Hopefully soon, we’ll be seeing shades of yellow, orange, and red among our neighborhood trees. 🍁

Have a great weekend!

Student Climate Survey Administration - Fall 2023

La Grange School District 102
Teaching & Learning Department
Student Climate Survey Information

In D102, we know that a strong school climate has positive impacts on student achievement, attendance rates, and school safety, as well as creating conditions for developing healthy social and emotional skills. We also feel it is critical to hear the voices of our students. To help facilitate that communication we provide a Student Climate Survey twice annually, once in September/October and again in March.

D102 will gather student perceptions of their school climate, as well as their own social-emotional well-being, in the following ways:

  • K-2nd grade students will orally provide their input during a classroom meeting conversation with their teacher.

  • 3rd-8th grade students will individually complete an online survey in Google Forms.

Results of the 3rd-8th grade survey are anonymous and will not be used to identify individual students. Rather, the data will be used to gather an overarching sense of students’ perceptions. Each building’s leadership team will use the survey results to inform school-wide planning while grade level teachers will use the data to help plan proactive classroom-based morning circles.

While the K-2nd grade classroom conversation is not anonymous, no student information will be collected or shared. Rather, themes identified during the K-2nd grade classroom conversations will be collected by the teacher and used to plan proactive classroom-based morning circles.

For more information see:

Families that wish to opt out of the survey should either contact their elementary child’s classroom teacher or their junior high child’s advisory teacher.
