Roadrunner

Message from Mrs. Stamer

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend!  I want to send out a HUGE thank you to our wonderful PTO for putting together a fantastic Back to School Bash. It was a beautiful night and it was so great to see so many families.  Our students were running around having a great time together. Thank you!!

We are off to a great start at Forest Road, but I have a few reminders…

cellphones and iwatches (or similar) - Students are not allowed to have cellphones in class or use them during the day at school. Once they arrive at school they are to turn their phone off and put it in their backpack. If students need to communicate with anyone at home or you need to communicate with your child, we will do so through the school phones. Please don’t text or call their phones or have them text or call you. Also, iwatches (or similar) should be in “school mode”. They can wear the watch if it is in school mode. If they begin to use the watch during the day for calls, texting or games then they will have to put it in their backpack during the school day.

No parking, dropping off or picking up on Homestead between Monroe and Jackson - Many are parking and dropping off on Homestead between Monroe and Jackson and it is causing an unsafe situation for our students walking to school. Also, as many are turning around in residential driveways neighbors are becoming upset and it is the potential for backing into other cars. Please please please do not park or drop off on this street.

Stand behind the yellow line at dismissal - Please stand behind the yellow line or behind the sidewalk (if you are on the south end of the blacktop) during dismissal. Having parents near the doors at dismissal makes it difficult for students to see where their person is that is picking them up. It is also a safety concern to have crowding around the exit doors as we dismiss students.

Message from Mr. Ontiveros

Happy September Roadrunner Families,

This week we saw our PTO shine as our annual Back to School Bash was held on Wednesday. Students, families, and staff came together to celebrate as one school community. Local organizations also came out to show support and provide activities along with some sweet treats for the participants. A fun night was certainly had by all.

At Forest Road and District 102, we focus on restorative practices. We strive to develop our students' problem-solving capacity through the building of meaningful relationships. We also emphasize the importance of “making it right” and restoring connections. I was fortunate enough this week to visit a few classrooms and do a lesson activity on the power of our words. It was great to see our students gain an understanding of how our words can have a lasting effect on how we feel, think, and act.

Rolling into the first weekend of September, many of us switch off summer mode and begin to focus on autumn. If there are activities or traditions that you’re planning for this time of year, I do hope they’re fun and memorable.

As always please feel free to reach out if I can help with anything.

Enjoy the 3-day weekend!

Athletics - CPCFRO

CPCFRO is an athletics program within District 102 that introduces volleyball and basketball to 5th and 6th graders. The program's goal is to introduce the basic skills of each sport, get the children excited about playing, and allow for the inclusion of all kids in our district. All the teams within CPCFRO (Congress Park, Cossitt, Forest Road, and Ogden) are coached by parent volunteers, and the games are refereed by IHSA referees. While we keep score during the game, we do not keep track of wins/losses... the focus is strictly instructional and for the kids to HAVE FUN!!  Each team will play 7-8 games and receive a team shirt. The cost to participate is $40/player.  The fall session is September to November with 5th and 6th grade girls playing basketball and 5th and 6th grade boys playing volleyball.  Registration will be able September 1st-15th.  A link to registration will be sent thru email and on a future PTO newsletter.
