D102 Families,
Due to dangerously cold temperatures throughout the day tomorrow, all La Grange School District 102 buildings will be closed. As a result, all classes, community activities, and before and after-school activities are canceled tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. As in the case of Friday, there will be no eLearning expectations.
I recognize that this is a long stretch to be out of school and that families have to make special arrangements whenever the regular rhythm of school is disrupted. I did not arrive at this decision easily. Here are the most significant factors that have been considered:
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill warning due to “feel like” temperatures between -25 and -30 degrees, which is expected during the student arrival times and -15 to -20 degrees during the student departure times.
Our bus company has reported significant mechanical problems with their fleet. Even with the speed at which they are addressing these issues, the district aims to limit the risk of students waiting for buses, or not having bus service.
Any additional weather closures this year would require an Emergency Day added to the end of the school year. Please be aware that, the Administration and BOE are working to expedite an approved eLearning plan to avoid extending the school year in the event of future weather closures.
It is important to note that thanks to the hard work of our Buildings and Grounds, and Custodial staff, our buildings are operating well and will be ready for students to return on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
We understand the inconvenience this decision may cause, and we appreciate your understanding, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
Be sure to monitor our WEBSITE as well as the SCHOOL CLOSINGS SITE for more information.
Stay safe, and have a good evening.
