Dear D102 Parents and Guardians,
As you may have heard, Dr. Kyle Schumacher announced at last Thursday's D102 Board meeting his intent to retire at the end of this school year. While I am happy for Kyle and excited to see him begin a new chapter in his life, I’m simultaneously saddened about his departure. He has been a steadfast leader since he arrived eight years ago. Kyle’s confidence in the district’s ability to weather any storm has never wavered and he has been instrumental in leading us through the worst of the pandemic. He has also demonstrated a tremendous amount of grace under pressure. Such qualities are not easily found in just anyone. I know Kyle will leave this district in a stronger place than when he arrived and I am very grateful for the work he has done and for what he will do in the year to come.
The board has started the process of searching for a new superintendent. Over the course of the next few weeks we intend to retain a search firm to assist us in identifying the best candidates to invite for interviews. It is our hope to complete the search over the winter in order to allow for a proper transition. We will share updates throughout the process.
Please join me in congratulating Kyle on his decision and let’s work together to make his final year in D102 the best one yet!
Mike Melendez
D102 Board President
