Message from Mrs. Stamer & Mr. Ontiveros

arab

In April we celebrate Arab American Heritage Month. This is an opportunity to enhance understanding of the diverse aspects of Arab American heritage. During the month, individuals, organizations, and schools celebrate the rich history, cultural influences and contributions of Arab Americans. Our specials teachers talked with students this month about Arab Americans and had some students help design our main hallway bulletin board.

5 Essentials Survey

Students, teachers and parents across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Please click here for the a letter about 5 Essentials and a link to the survey.

It would be wonderful to have this portion of the report.

6th Grade Families - Please Read

The Sixth-Grade Committee is hard at work planning the end-of-the-year celebrations for the Forest Road sixth graders.  More information on the festivities will be shared as available, but in the meantime, we need your pictures!

We will share a class slideshow at the class party at the end of the year, but we need your help.  We would like an early photo of every 6th grader to include in the slideshow.  (A baby photo would be great, but if a baby photo isn't available, then any photo from before this year will work.)

We also need digital candid photos of your student at school and with Forest Road friends throughout their years at Forest Road.  The best way to submit the photos is via email at FR6THGRADERS2023@GMAIL.COM.  If you only have a hard copy available, please send it in with your student to the school office, clearly labeled with their name and homeroom.  (We will scan it and return it to you.)  Thank you so much for your participation in this project!

If you have any questions, please email Erin at shanahane@hotmail.com.

Forest Road has some special traditions to celebrate our sixth graders at the end of their last year at Forest Road.  The Sixth Grade Committee has been hard at work planning some great events, and you can learn more about all of it by visiting this website: https://forestroadpto.org/6thgrade2023/.

We also need your help to make all of this successful for our students, so please visit the website to sign up to volunteer your time and/or donate supplies and food for the party and class breakfast.  You will also find the Required Permission Slip for attendance at the class party and order forms for the sixth-grade t-shirts and yard signs.

Questions? Please email the committee at: fr6thgraders2023@gmail.com.

Commuting within 102

Dear D102 Families,

As you may know, some of our schools are within residential areas. To ensure we are being courteous to our neighbors, we’d like to encourage being mindful of the property surrounding our schools, including driveways and walkways. It’s been brought to the District’s attention that parents have been blocking driveways, preventing neighboring homeowners from exiting or entering their property. If you drive, ensure you are using the designated route of your child’s school and following all parking regulations within the community. If your student walks or bikes to school, ensure they utilize assigned crossing areas and crossing guards.

Each school has a designated drop-off route to ensure safe traffic and pedestrians. While we understand the importance of being timely to school, safety is our top concern. Please be patient with others during drop-off and pick-up times, and practice kindness with our neighbors.

Don’t hesitate to contact your school’s main office for more information if you have any questions regarding the drop-off route.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Computers/Devices

Throughout the years we have witnessed many students not using their computer cases.  Please remind your child(ren) to protect their devices by using their computer case. Parents are responsible for any damages to the computer, which are more likely to occur if students are not using cases.

If your child has lost their case, you are responsible for purchasing a replacement.  If we happen to have extra here at school they are $20.00 otherwise you can purchase a new one for your child(ren) through a vendor of your choice.

Before & After School Care Info.

Forest Road offers two different before and after school programs.  Although they run independently from us, they are serviced here in our school.  Below is the contact information for BASE and Right At School:

BASE: Leanna Hartung - Manager LeannaHartung@pdlg.org

Right At School:  Chelsey Mazariegos - Area Manager chelsey.mazariegos@rightatschool.com

Right at School and BASE drop off security reminder:

Parents when you drop off your child off at Right at School or BASE and for some reason need to walk your child into the building, please then exit the building immediately after dropping off. Please do not take your child to the classroom or go to the classrooms on your own to drop off or pick anything up. I appreciate your attention to this.

Playground Safety

Just a reminder that the playground, basketball court, and blacktop areas shared by both Barnsdale and Forest Road are closed to the public during school hours (8:15-3:15).  In order to ensure the safety of our students, we limit the use of these areas to only students and staff members during the school day. We kindly ask that parents refrain from having younger siblings and/or preschoolers who are not in session use these areas during that time.  We thank you for your cooperation and helping to keep all of our students safe!

Is Your Child Vaccinated?

District 102 invites families to voluntarily share an electronic image of their child’s vaccination card with their building’s health office. Providing proof of vaccination is not required.

Copies of proof of vaccination will be kept in each student’s individual health file and treated in the same way as all health records. Please feel free to send a picture of your child's COVID vaccination card to your school nurse.

Referral GPS - Connecting People to Treatment

We are committed to creating a culture of well-being of students, staff,  parents, and community. In an effort to continuously support this  commitment, the district has entered an agreement with ReferralGPS.

ReferralGPS is a web-based service focused on assisting our students,  staff, and community in finding local mental-health and substance use  related treatment. The service compliments the district's existing  systems of support as a tool for student service teams and families to  connect with treatment. Along with a searchable database of treatment  options, ReferralGPS provides Care Navigation to assist families in  triage, appointment setting, and follow up care.

School families may access ReferralGPS in two ways:

1) Visit this link at https://referralgps.com/find-help/dist102 to  search for treatment resources or connect with a Care  Navigator anonymously.

2) Contact Student Services (social workers, psychologists,  counselors) to seek out treatment options.

ReferralGPS takes into account all types of private and public insurance  including PPO, HMO, Medicaid, Medicare, and families who are  uninsured or underinsured. The platform also filters by age, gender, zip  code, and special requests.

ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at  no cost. All information entered on the ReferralGPS tool is completely confidential and securely stored.

If you are interested in seeking counseling-related services at this time,  please consider visiting https://referralgps.com/find-help/dist102 or  reaching out to the Student Services team.
