Dear Congress Park Community,

I enjoyed seeing many of you at the Trunk or Treat event. There truly is no better way to spend a Friday night than to wander around the school parking lot in a hot dog costume! I look forward to continuing the excitement with you and our CP students at our annual Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st.

Parent Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. Please review the important information below in order to prepare for the upcoming conference date(s).

Fall conferences will be taking place on Monday, November 21st during the hours of 8 am to 8 pm, although teachers may not be available for all 12 hours. Conferences will be virtual. If you have any concerns about the virtual conference format, please contact your child’s teacher. 

Conferences for K-5 families will be 17 minutes long with a 3 minute transition.  You will receive a Google Appointment link from your child’s teacher asking you to reserve a time.  Once this time is chosen, a Google Meet link will be generated for you to use during your conference time.

Conferences for 6th grade families will be 8 minutes long with a 2 minute transition time, and you will be able to book up to 3 teachers.  On November 10th at 7:00pm families can login to PowerSchool and access PowerPTC to reserve conferences. Reservations can be made through November 17th at 11:59pm. Parents will receive instructions on November 9th.

Although Specials teachers and Interventionists will not be listed in the sign-up system, as has always been the case, families should feel free to contact any of their child’s teachers to meet with them or speak with them over the phone if they have any questions or concerns.

Halloween Information

Costumes: Please know that we want this Halloween to be an enjoyable time for everyone. It is in this spirit that we ask you to make sure costumes are school appropriate - no weapons, celebrations of violence or gore.

The morning hours remain intact to preserve classroom instruction. Students will have the opportunity to go home for lunch and to get into costumes. Children are dismissed for the lunch hour at 11:20 (kindergarteners at 11:10) and need to return back to school by 12:10. Class begins at 12:15.

Children who stay for lunch should bring their costumes to school. After lunch they will have the opportunity to change into their costumes. Assistance will be provided for students that need support to change into their costume.

Parade: The costume parade will begin at approximately 2:00 PM. The parade will begin and end at door #5. Classes will exit the building, walk south to Congress Park Ave and continue all the way around the school’s block. Classes will re-enter the building at door #5. Parents and visitors may stand anywhere around the parade’s route.

In case of rain, the parade will take place in the school. Due to our limited space, all observers will need to arrive before 1:50. We will not be able to admit anyone after that time. Parent spectators will be able to watch the parade in the gym

Book Drive

The Book Drive has been extended by one week - through next Friday, November 4. Collection bins are located in the main entrance.

Attendance

If your child will be absent from school, please contact cpattendance@dist102.k12.il.us. This is a quick and easy way to communicate with the health office about your child's absence.

SHIELD Testing

District 102 is once again offering SHIELD testing for those who consent.  You can find the sign up for SHIELD testing on the front page of the district website - www.dist102.k12.il.us.

We are looking to collect gently used winter boots starting October 1st!   As you are moving things around and making room for new winter stuff, please consider sharing boots you no longer need with the community.  Boxes will be located in the school vestibule on October 1 - thanks in advance!!
